“What Mais Um Discos is doing in Brazil is amazing” Gilles Peterson
Celebrate Brazilian carnival with an EP from hyped new Brazilian label Mais Um Discos championing Brazil’s most exciting new dance music from deep in the Amazon – tecnobrega.
‘Mais Um Discos present Electro-Amazonas' focuses on the latest genre to take Brazil by storm – technobrega.
Full of snappy beats, loud synths, unrelenting basslines and screeching divas battling tough MCs, tecnobrega is the tropical love-child of electro-cumbia and 90s euro-dance and the most exciting electronic music to come out of Brazil since baile-funk (funk carioca).
‘Electro Amazonas’ features tracks by technobrega’s undisputed queen – Gaby Amarantos. Her ‘Ela Ta No Ar’ features relentless beats, stabbing horns, electric guitars and insanely catchy lyrics whilst ‘Festa Das Mulheres’ sees Gaby – the Amazonian Beyonce – duet with the original Amazonian bad-boy Maderito.
The EP also features the bouncy Arabic tinged technobrega of Techno Machiny, the minimal house and techno influenced technobrega of Jaloo and the slower, harder offshoot of technobrega – ‘electro-melody’ – from Gang do Eletro, who count Skrillex as a fan.
Championing new styles of Brazillian music such as tecnobrega Mais Um is redefining 21st Century Brazilian music. Their critically acclaimed compilation ‘Oi! A Nova Musica Brasileira!’ gave a sonic snapshot of a nation and has now continued into this twelve part download series set to highlight the most exciting scenes and artists in Brazil now.
